"Southern Comfort" Television Pilot Completes Filming

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television, "Southern Comfort" could be described as a Southern-themed "Sopranos." The plot concerns a well-to-do Memphis woman who is shocked when her home is raided and she learns her seemingly respectable husband earned his money through gambling, drug dealing and other mob crimes. The production had a 14-day shooting schedule which began on March 15. The budget was about $4.5 million.

"Divine Manipulation of the Threads" at Studio on the Square

"Divine Manipulation of the Threads" has been extended. It is showing through April 6th at Malco Studio on the Square.

"Self-Medicated" Wins Best Feature at MIFF

"Self-Medicated," the story of a troubled young man subjected to physical and emotional abuse in a corrupt rehab facility, was named Best Feature at the seventh annual Memphis International Film Festival.

"Black Snake Moan" Now in Post-Production

"Black Snake Moan," the new film from local director Craig Brewer, filmed in and around the Memphis area. Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci, the film marks Craig's follow-up to this summer's popular indie, "Hustle & Flow."
"Forty Shades of Blue" Coming to DVD May 9

"Forty Shades of Blue," directed by native Memphian Ira Sachs, is coming to DVD. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. The $1.5 million film marked a big step forward for Sachs, 38, whose previous film, the almost no-budget "The Delta," debuted to good reviews at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997.
"Hustle & Flow" Now Available on DVD

The rap drama "Hustle & Flow," directed by Memphis-based writer-director Craig Brewer, is now on DVD. The film won the Audience Award at Sundance. The $2.5 million independent production was financed by John Singleton, whose credits include "Boyz N the Hood" and "2 Fast 2 Furious." Craig Brewer's previous effort, "The Poor & Hungry" grew critical acclaim and was seen on the Independent Film Channel.

"away(A)wake" from Morgan Jon Fox Now on DVD

"away(A)wake," from Morgan Jon Fox, is now on DVD. The film concerns characters dealing with loss and sexual identity. The production had a fixed shooting schedule and a $40,000 budget.

"Walk the Line" Film Now on DVD

"Walk the Line," a movie biography of Johnny Cash starring Joaquin Phoenix as the famed "Man in Black" and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash, was shot in Memphis in 2004. The film covers Cash's life from the Sun era of the 1950's until his country superstar days of the late 1960's. The production was headed by the husband-and-wife team of director James Mangold ("Girl, Interrupted") and producer Cathy Konrad (the "Scream" trilogy).
